INDUSTRY INSIGHTS
RSAC 2026: Cutting Through the Noise to What Matters

Our team attended RSAC 2026 and returned with a clear takeaway: AI agents are no longer a future concept, they’re rapidly becoming embedded in how organisations operate. From autonomous decision-making to scaled execution, the shift is happening fast, but the reality is still catching up to the hype. While agentic AI dominated conversations, practical use cases and operational models are still emerging but the risk is real and fast approaching.
At the same time, identity has re-emerged as the critical control layer. As AI agents gain autonomy, organisations must rethink how access is governed, enforced, and continuously verified. Layer in growing supply chain risk and a renewed focus on fundamentals, and the message is clear: success won’t come from innovation alone but from balancing AI adoption with strong identity, visibility, and disciplined execution.
So what does this actually mean for your organisation right now and where should you focus first?
IDENTITY IN FOCUS
Yubico Doubles Down on APAC and Modern Authentication

In this episode, we talk with Sim Yap, Director of Sales Engineering for APAC at Fresh from the Yubico Partner Conference in Singapore, one thing stood out: identity is becoming the cornerstone of modern security and APAC is firmly in the spotlight. With Singapore now established as Yubico’s third global headquarters, the investment signals a strong commitment to regional growth, faster support, and deeper partner collaboration.
The conversations also highlighted a broader shift beyond traditional hardware authentication, with a growing focus on scalable, phishing-resistant identity solutions designed for cloud, AI, and increasingly complex environments.
For partners across Australia and New Zealand, this momentum presents a clear opportunity as organisations look to move beyond legacy MFA toward stronger, standards-based approaches.

MOVING BEYOND LEGACY MFA IN EDUCATION
Why Phishing-Resistant Authentication is Now Essential

Education is now the most targeted sector for cyberattacks, with growing pressure from regulators and insurers to strengthen identity security. Drawing on insights from Yubico’s latest white paper, we’ve created this infographic to highlight why legacy MFA methods like SMS and push notifications are no longer sufficient.
It breaks down the real-world risks of outdated authentication, compares modern approaches, and outlines a practical path to stronger, phishing-resistant security. Download the infographic to see how education organisations can improve protection, reduce IT burden, and enable seamless, secure access across their environment.
INSIDE AUSTRALIA'S CYBER LANDSCAPE
Latest Threats and Trends

Australia introduces mandatory cybersecurity standards for smart devices
Australia has officially introduced new cybersecurity regulations for consumer smart devices, which came into effect in March 2026. The rules require manufacturers of internet-connected products—such as smart TVs, routers, and home security systems—to meet minimum security standards, including eliminating default passwords and improving vulnerability disclosure processes. The move is designed to address the growing risks associated with connected devices and to better protect consumers from cyber threats at the device level. This marks a significant step in Australia’s broader push to strengthen baseline cybersecurity across everyday technology and reflects increasing regulatory attention on the Internet of Things (IoT).

Victorian Department of Education student data compromised in major school network breach
The Victorian Department of Education recently confirmed a significant cyber incident that compromised student data across government schools. The breach involved an unauthorised third party gaining access to a central database via a school network, exposing information including student names, school email addresses, and encrypted passwords. While highly sensitive details such as home addresses and birth dates were not accessed, the incident impacted current and former students across all government schools in the state. Authorities responded by securing systems, resetting passwords, and working with cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the breach. This event highlights the growing vulnerability of Australia’s education sector and underscores the need for stronger cyber resilience across large, distributed school networks.

Government reports steady progress on cyber resilience across federal agencies
A recent Commonwealth Cyber Security Posture Report highlights ongoing improvements in cyber resilience across Australian government agencies, particularly through adoption of the Essential Eight security framework. The report shows agencies are gradually strengthening their ability to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats, although gaps still remain. This demonstrates a continued national effort to uplift baseline cyber maturity and reduce systemic risk across government systems.
