Total Recall. Microsoft Recall AI tool delayed once again.
Microsoft has recently decided to recall a security update for Windows 11, prompted by significant privacy concerns raised by users. Following the initial rollout, users reported that the update inadvertently altered privacy settings and unintentionally shared more data than they had consented to. It seems there is growing anxiety among users regarding personal data protection and privacy, compelling Microsoft to take swift action to restore user trust and address the underlying issues. As privacy remains a critical concern in the digital age, the incident underscores the necessity for transparent data practices and user governance and control over their personal information.
Western Sydney University student data compromised in a sophisticated attack
Western Sydney University recently experienced a significant cyber attack that compromised the personal data of students and staff. The breach involved unauthorised access to sensitive information, including names, addresses and detailed student identification details. In response, the university has launched an investigation and notified affected individuals about the incident. This event highlights the growing threat of increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks targeting local educational institutions and underscores the challenges faced with continual assurance of robust security measures to protect sensitive data in an increasingly digital environment.
Impromptu Infiltration: How 'Imprompter' Malware Hijacks AI Prompts to Steal Sensitive Data
Researchers have discovered a new attack method, dubbed "Imprompter", that uses hidden prompts within chatbots to secretly gather users' personal information and send it to attackers. By embedding malicious instructions into a seemingly random prompt, attackers can prompt a Large Language Model (LLM) to extract data like names or credit card numbers. This exploit was tested on several LLMs and showed a high success rate (~80%). Some companies have already implemented fixes, but the attack highlights significant security risks for chatbots handling sensitive information.
